Our Key Tips for Growing Great Citrus
- Citrus trees love water but dislike wet feet! Therefore, always ensure good drainage when planting in pots or containers.
Mulch and water well, particularly over the warmer months. - Apply citrus fertiliser little and often, preferably every 2nd month, especially to container grown trees.
- Remove and discard fruit in the first year of planting. This allows the tree to establish itself and encourages better fruiting in the following seasons.
- Be mindful of cross pollination when planting multiple varieties of citrus.
- With double grafted citrus it is important to cut back the more dominant variety to ensure it doesn’t take over the whole tree.

Why do my Seedless Fruit have Seeds?
Seedless fruit should have very little seeds if any.
This generally is a result of cross pollination. Be mindful when planting different citrus varieties in the same area.

Why Does my Citrus Tree have Yellow Leaves?
Yellow leaves are symptomatic of a lack of food.
Citrus are very heavy feeders in the growing season and it is important to use a good quality citrus fertiliser.

Why hasn't my Citrus Tree hasn’t Produced any Fruit this Year?
There is a number of factors as to why a tree wont bare fruit:
Age, flowers, drainage, environmental factors, too much nitrogen, not enough food etc.
If the tree looks healthy but doesn’t produce fruit it is more than likely too comfortable and there is too much nitrogen in the soil.
Avoid excess nitrogen during the flowering period as this encourages leafy growth and minimises the production of flowers and fruit.
